Custom Profiles

Even though we have quick access to moulder-ready tooling for hundreds of profiles, we run custom profiles daily. Some custom profiles are simply a variation of a standard width profile and in many cases do not require new tooling to be made. Other profiles may be a combination of existing tooling and a new profile knife ground for one edge of the profile. In more detailed profiles it may be necessary to grind custom knives for all four sides of the profile. The illustration below depicts tooling requirements for a profile. We use carbide tooling for a smooth finish.

How Knife Charges Are Calculated

S4S (Standard Square 4 Edges)

S4S is available in any thickness and width without a knife charge. Our standard thickness is 3/4″. These profiles are run without a backout unless specified.

S4S (with Blackout)

This S4S is shown with a backout. No knife charge is required for a standard backout, we have tooling for standard backouts based on profile width.

Custom Profile w/backout

If we do not have a profile with the same edge profile,
a custom side knife would be required. Knife Charges
are based on the width of the knife required. There is a
2″ Minimum with an additional charge for each
additional inch or fraction thereof. In this example the
2″ minimum Knife charge would apply. Charges apply
for each knife and only 1 knife is required.

Custom Profile w/backout

In this example 2 knives would be required. Each
knife charge would be based on the 2″ minimum
knife charge.

Custom Profile w/backout

In this case 3 knives would be
required. The 2 side knives each at the
minimum tooling charge plus the top
Knife which would be a 2″ minimum
charge plus a small additional charge
for the additional inch or fraction
thereof.

Custom Profile all 4 sides

In this case 4 knives would be
required. The 2 side knives each at the
minimum tooling charge plus the top
& bottom knives which would be a 2″
minimum charge plus a small
additional charge for the additional
inch or fraction thereof.
